Body Language Online
If you are new to online protocol, you may
be frustrated by the in-group language – those acronyms
and punctuation symbols people stick into their sentences.
Those have the fancy name of “emoticon” (emotional
icons) because they are intended
to be EMOTIon-CONveying
by communicating body language. After all, if you can’t
see me smile, you may not know I am joking.
When you see punctuation marks, mentally turn
the page 90 degrees clockwise, and picture the marks as a
face, without the circle. For example,
