Procedure
to Determine
Player
Of The
Year (POTY)
Award
(Effective
January 1, 2007)
The Unit
143 Player Of The Year (POTY) is awarded to that
unit member in good standing who has won the most
masterpoints in unrestricted Unit-sponsored events
in a given calendar year.
This reflects
loyalty and dedication and, of course, a great deal
of skill.
|
INTENT:
The award is designed
to promote the participation of the players in Unit143-sponsored
events and to recognize an individual's achievement in those
events. It was not designed to identify the best player
in the unit.
DEFINITIONS:
- Qualifying Period: January 1 through December 31 of one
calendar year.
- Qualified Players: All Unit 143 members must be in good
standing on the dates on which points are won, as well as
December 31 of the qualifying year.
- Qualifying events: All ACBL Unit143-sponsored unrestricted
(by masterpoints) events. This includes all Sectional
games, all games held at the St. Louis Regional, and all
Unit games. Only the first bracket of knockouts qualify.
This also includes the St. Louis "Bragging Rights"
Knockouts sectional unlimited
bracket.
- Club games are excluded.
- Events restricted by age or gender are excluded.
- For clarification only, the Unit Board will publish a
list of the qualifying events prior to the start of the
qualifying period. Changes to qualifying events may be published
prior to the start of a tournament in rare circumstances.
- Player Of The Year Points: Masterpoints awarded by the
ACBL for those three (3) pairs or teams finishing first,
second, or third in the overalls in qualified events designed
to rank the performance of Unit 143 members.
- Player Of The Year Point System: ACBL masterpoints won
in POTY qualified events will be the point system used.
This automatically compensates for the number of players,
the importance of the event, and the number of sessions
played.
- In Team events, all team members will receive the full
masterpoint award if they played the minimum number of matches
required by the ACBL to win an overall award.
- In case of a tie in any qualifying event, ACBL Masterpoint
awards will be used.
