I moved to St. Louis (from Carbondale, IL) almost two years ago.  The availability of Duplicate Bridge was a major reason.  Meeting Chuck Starovasnik at the Evansville Tournament the week following my move and having him arrange a partner for me the following weekend at Bridge Haven got me started in St. Louis Duplicate.  I now play in games at Maryland Heights, Olivette, and Occidental as well as Bridge Haven.

Prior to moving, I’d been coming to tournaments here for several years and recognized many of you right away making my transition into St. Louis Duplicate Bridge really easy.  I have been amazed at how welcoming this community has been.   It’s very important to me to keep Unit 143 Bridge welcoming to community newcomers and those who want to learn to play duplicate bridge.

After retiring from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, I knew I wanted to move to a city with lots of bridge as well as cultural events.  I chose St. Louis for those reasons as well as its affordability and proximity to some family in Columbia.  At SIUC I served as director of academic advisement in the College of Business for the twenty years prior to retirement.  Previously I had done classroom scheduling, quarterly timetable preparation for publication, and problem registration at SIUC, and tax work with H&R Block.

Outside work, I held various positions with the Saluki Bridge Club including manager for several years.  I also served on the Board of the Chamber Music Society and was active in the SIU Women’s Club serving as Vice-President for Programs and President.
